Halifax: October 15 and 16

Quality Inn, 980 Parkland Drive, Halifax

This year, Paul and Lori are pleased to offer Canadian teachers two days of Six Traits training. Their popular Six Traits Basics gives a strong introduction to the Six Traits of Writing and how to develop improved writing in your classroom. Beyond Six Traits extends the first course to show how the Six Traits approach can be integrated into genre-based instruction.

Six Traits Writing, grades 3 to 9

This introductory seminar shows teachers how to use the Six Traits - Ideas, Organization, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, Voice and Conventions - to improve student writing. Using authentic student writing samples, Paul and Lori will show you how to assess student writing and plan effective instruction based on student needs. You'll get many practical ideas for teaching students how to be more effective writers from this dynamic, interactive seminar.

Beyond Six Traits Writing, grades 3-9

For teachers already familiar with the Six Traits, or those who enrol in the November 13 session, this new session shows you how to integrate the Six Traits into your on-going writing instruction. You'll get information on how to organize and manage a writing workshop and ideas on how to use the Six Trait Framework for grading student writing. As well, you'll see how to build all of the traits into genre-based units for a full year of writing instruction.
