WHAT HIP TITLES DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR OUR SCHOOLS?
We are often called upon to create customized lists for schools or districts looking to incorporate HIP novels into their literacy programs. We are happy to prepare a list of recommended titles and teaching resources to suit your instructional needs and budgetary restrictions. Just contact us by phone (1-855-446-1316) or email (customerservice@hip-books.com).
PLUS! Because High Interest Publishing is dedicated to supporting struggling readers and the teachers who teach them, we offer plenty of professional supports, including Teacher’s Guides, Teacher Pages on the HIP Website and professional resources. As well, you are welcome to consult with HIP Education Director, Lori Jamison, a K-12 Literacy Consultant, former Board Member of the International Literacy Association, and author of several professional books for teachers, including Struggling Readers: Why Worksheets Don’t Work and Band-aids Don’t Stick.
How HIP NOVELS can strengthen your LITERACY PROGRAM…
- Accessible but exciting fiction for Independent Reading in your school or classroom library
- Sets of 6-10 copies of titles for Small Group Instruction and Guided Practice, Literature Circles or Book Discussion Groups. (Note that the corresponding Teacher’s Guide is FREE with any purchase of 6 or more copies of any title.)
- Class sets for Novel Studies and Close Reading practice.

To customize our recommendations for your district, we consider:
- What are the ages and interests of the students? Although all our titles are at accessible Grade 2-4 reading levels, the topics and themes vary according to the interests of the students. We will provide separate suggestions for Senior High Schools, Middle/Junior High Schools and Elementary Schools.
- How will the books be used? We recommend sets of titles to use for comprehension instruction or book club discussions and individual titles for library/independent reading use. Most schools request a combination of both.
- What teacher supports are you looking for? We encourage including Teacher’s Guides and other support materials whenever possible.
- What is your budget? We will do our best to get you the most value for your instructional dollar and will work with you to adjust our recommendations to meet your needs. Of course, titles can always be added, deleted or changed to meet academic and fiscal requirements.
FOR EXAMPLE...
We were recently asked to create a recommendation list for a district with one high school, three middle schools and four elementary schools.
They were looking for instructional collections as well as individual titles for library use and wanted a range of different titles in each set of schools. This customer ordered the entire sets for each of her schools, but we are also happy to negotiate on titles to ensure that you get the collection of books that best meets the needs of your students.
