Welcome to HIP Books

High Interest Publishing now offers three series of novels designed to bring success to struggling readers. Our award-winning HIP Senior series includes twenty-four high-interest, low-vocabulary novels suitable for striving readers in grades 6 to 12 who read at a grade 3-4 level. Our HIP Junior series now includes a dozen novels created for students in grades 3 to 6 who read at a grade 2 level. Our six HIP Edge novels introduce a new series of readability-controlled novels for senior high readers. Coming this fall, HIP will introduce the Dragon Speaker series of fantasy novels - the first fantasy books that struggling readers can actually read on their own.

Reviews of HIP's Edge books have been universally enthusiastic. Resource Links says, "All the books have sharp, witty, up-to-date dialogue, fast moving plots and powerful themes that encircle the lives of today's urban teens."  School Library Journal reviewed Outrage and Turf War saying "The two books are fast paced and have realistic characters and situations ... welcome additions to the hi/lo genre." Two of our HIP Edge novels have been selected for the YALSA Quick Picks for reluctant readers: Tony Varrato's Outrage and Paul Kropp's Behind the Door.

All HIP novels feature exciting stories with realistic characters and situations that grab the reader's interest quickly. Our editing and readability standards ensure that these books will continue to hold that interest page after page.

This website also includes free material for teachers, including readers' theater plays, and for parents to help them with reading development at home.
